On power and law

In an earthly sense, law is the agreement among those in power as to the rules that bind society.  When the people, collectively, hold the power, laws are put in place to limit the role of government.  When government holds the power, laws will be put into place that limit personal freedoms.  Those who hold the power make the rules.  When the people, for whatever reason, cede that power to the government, the culpability lies at the feet of the people, for all should know what government is and what its propensities are.
