“behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before theLord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.” (1 Kings 19:11-12)
If you don’t forcibly clear your own thoughts from your brain and find a quiet environment, how can you ever expect to be able to hear the still small voice? The car radio, the iPod, the TV and a million other voices seek to overwhelm the only voice that matters. What will we choose? In a competition between still and small and anything else, still and small will lose. Should it surprise us that a God who values meekness so highly would use such a meek communication mechanism to direct his children?
